Merida- Capital of Yucatan

After our morning swimming in Ik Kil we went to Merida, the capital of Yucatan.
We walked around the city square, had a delicious lunch, and an even more delicious dessert.

Then made our way to the Museum of anthropology. The museum was housed in this beautiful building that, over a century ago, was a hacienda to one of Merida's wealthiest families.

buried in the ground, cremated,

or buried in a vessel.

Eric and I knew there was an LDS Temple in Merida and after the museum, asked our tour guides if they had ever heard of a "Mormon" or Latter Day Saint Temple. Eric spoke to them in Spanish about being a missionary in Texas and asked if they had ever seen or talked to a missionary. They had seen missionaries but never spoken to one and they had never heard of the Mormon Temple. So I texted my dad and asked him if he could text us the address of the Temple. Once again we were lucky and found the Temple only a few miles from the museum. Now our tour guides can take future tourists to the Mayan and Mormon Temples!

We really wish we would have been able to do a session instead of going to the museum... one of our regrets from the trip.
